Hi..i'm currently using honda city i-dsi 2003. I have the same experience as yours + another 2 experience that i would like to share to ou

1) i had the same prob with the very severe drop in rpm during idle. Thought it was throttle body, sent to SC for service but same issue. Finally came out that my aircond compressor is failing and causing tremendous under power and pulling the car. To confirm this, try and switch off your A/C and drive to see any difference in smoothness.

>> some update. I found out that my compressor was ok after all. Went to an aircond specialist and they checked that my aircond system pressure is high which actually causing my compressor to be overload thus pulling more power from engine. Main culprit was my faulty condenser itself where the compressed R134a has not been cooled enough, thus causing pressure build up and coz my compressor to overload, thus pulling more power in engine, thus underpower. Root cause, when sent for car wash, they use waterjet aiming at my condenser and bended all fins thus spoilt the fins. Its just like your house aircond fins got bended.

2) judder issue. I've used to experience juddering upon initial acceleration. Finally change start-up clutch, that cost me rm3.5k and problem solved totally.

3) while driving at low speed, car vibrates but once exceed rpm 1.5k, vibration goes off. Change EGR valve and prob solved.

4) metal clash sound when switch on a/c and worst if you press brake at D. I Change flywheel and prob solved.

Imagine how much have I spent replacing this problems. Sigh!

Hi, may I know where did you fix your start-up clutch and EGR valve? I'm currently driving honda city i-dsi 2004, experiencing the same problems as you, ie judder issue and car vibration at low speeds. I'm trying to fix these 2 issues before my gear box goes kaput. Appreciate if you can point me towards the mechanic or Honda SC. Thanks!

I have been following this thread and others for some time. Honda as a world renown reputable automotive manufacturer should own up to their flaw and reliability issues in their small 1.5L cvt engines. The least they can do is to make an announcement and offer a solution. I have not heard a word from them on this issue and Honda SC are giving customer expensive run around without a clue of a possible solution to resolve this problem. I think this has made a lot of the 1.5L cvt engine Honda owners very angry and disappointed. Most are 1st time car owners and I hope that they will not be repeat customers of any Honda cars. Once bitten twice shy.
Back to this infamous jerking cvt engine problem.
1- car judders on stop and go.
2- jerk on acceleration and when on load.
3- drop in rpm and sometimes engine just go dead.
Problem was in faulty ignition coil. Two faulty coils were replaced and all the above problems were resolved.
I also flushed ATF and fitted new spark plugs(gpower) as regular maintenance
Now when I do sudden stop rpm will still drop but there is no vibration and rpm will go back to normal quickly but the best feeling is that the jerking is gone.
I have read some of the solutions given by Honda SC in this forum but none mentioned ignition coil.
BTW ignition coil cost RM240 each not including labour.
Hope this can help give you all another angle in resolving your jerk problem.

Spark Plug cable is a wear & tear item. It is recommended to replace after owning your car for 4 Years / 100k KM. Ignition coil hardly can damage except Ignition Coil Cover! Defective cable will cause your engine RPM to be irratic and lost of engine power!

There are foremen who wants to make quik money will recommend you to change the whole Ignition Set. But, in some case only the "Cover" needs to be replaced.

Hello . I am new here and am from the Philippines. I have the same problem with my honda city 2044 idsi car and the SC told me to change all my ignition coils. Can i just get the cover or change the cables instead? Please help. Thanks. I cannot even sell it until I fix this jerking problem.
