went to service my car at umw recently - 2005 altis. they inspected and told me 'FRT LHS driveshaft boots torn' and it needs to be replaced. estimated costs RM900!!!!! 1. pls dun mind but what is this driveshaft boots thing? 2. can i continue to drive and for roughly how long?? will it be dangerous? knowing our legendary umw service centers - it takes forever to get an appointment and it's gonna take whole day to replace 3. any cheaper alternative? 900 is big sum thanks |

To answer your queries:
1) driveshaft boots is driveshaft cover (in layman term) 2) The car is still driveable, but i suggest get it replaced ASAP to reduced chances of costly replacement. This is because torned driveshaft boots may allows water/sand to enter driveshaft head, by that time, whole driveshaft head will need replacement. 3) You can refer to outside workshop for cheaper replacement if you have a regular workshop and/or foreman. FYI, torn driveshaft boots is quite common for Vios after 5 - 6 years. For Vios and maybe Altis driver, i suggest get this thing inspected if your ride is more than 5 years. |

Guys any recommendation of such work (replacing of driveshaft boot) in puchong or subang area? Any good workshop should be able to do this for you. You should ask them to check the driveshaft boots every time you service the car. Replacing torn boots is a simple thing and the spare parts do not cost a fortune either. -------------------- Regards,
