I drive an Optra 5, never encounter any "over heating problem" before, and yes i have been stuck in jams for long long time. Temperature is very stable never even cross the half line, thanks to the 2 fans.

optra 1.8 should be no problem becoz their thermostat is made from metal unlike 1.6 is made from plastic

Optra is conceive and engineed by Japanese, german , korean and thai. Also known as Suzuki Forrenza in the US.
Never overheat before in my experience including the predecessor. Not on the 1.6 model too.

I think that might be a US make or european make for the temperate countries.. Optra and Aero, does not have that problem. because it is "Asianize". The Chevy Opel range might be a problem, because that is europe concievement.

My Optra5 has made a 8 hour non-stop drive from Malaysia to thailand without any problems so far....bought it since 2007 and mileage is about 50k....I got stuck in a 1 hour jam at the border and another hour stuck in downtown hatyai without any problems...

Anyway, chevy parts are not as expensive as they used to. Cergazam has reduced the oil filter price from RM35 previously to RM20 currently. This is ori GMDat stuff and on par with Japs....

I have own a few local makes and japs b4 and currently, all I can say its a good car without much hassle. Petrol is definitely higher at about 9km/l city driving and 12km/l highway. Build is more solid than japs.....it uses high rigidity steel and for the used car price at RM40k plus, you'll get goodies like:

2 Airbags, Front and Rear Discs, ABS, EBD, TCS, Digital Climate Control, Good soundproofing, and etc

i think overheating is a thing of the past for most modern vehicles. i dont think the factory is dumb enough to be building cars that overheat.

most jap and now i read it korean cars have a very misleading water temp gauge. they work partially to the middle and basically an on off switch from there onwards. most continental cars have full scale gauges. it is not logical for the water temp to be staying at the same spot all the time regardless if you have 1 or 2 fans.

thendra, what do you mean by high rigidity steel?
