Hi all vios owners. I'm planning to get a vios soon. just want to know if
Vios is running on timimng chain or timing belt. And is it true that cars
running on timing chain are relatively noisier?

its on chain
noisier? very much
depends on how d
chain is constructed
anyway, if ur car's
nvh is good, u wont b
able to hear anything

liew,
Yes, the 1NZ-FE is running on timing chains. The Vios engine is noisier,
but I'm not sure if that can be solely attributed to the application of
timing chains.

thanks to all of u. one of my criteria for choosing this car is also the
durability of the parts. Chains required less servicing or even replacing.

Vios run on timing. In fact all toyota vvt-i engine run on timing chain
more reliable. All mine cars now use timing chain. Noisy or no depend on
car sound proofing.Mine N16 engine noise consider quiet.

Yes, Vios is on chain. However, I am surprise on how quiet and stable the
engine is. The sound of the air cond is louder than the engine. At times,
with the CD playing, I almost forgot the engine is running

Due to the need of higher accuracy of valve system and complex
construction, most manufacturers nowadays uses back the chain for valve
timing system. All new model= vios, sentra N16, myvi etc uses chain. But
these chain is now properly engineered with lower drag/abbrasion, more
eficient to compare than those used in 60s and 70s. They accurate, strong
and can move a complex VVTi, VTC, or whatever system u called it. More
extra, higher durability, replacement only after a few hundred thousands
km.
Rubber/fibre/composite timing belt have the properties of 'elongation',
they became slightly longer (talked about micron measurement) on stress
absorption. lower quality composite elongate even further, which is why
some of local magma engine 'knocking' or 'loose the cam' on ascending move
(climb hill, engine resistance increased). The advantage of rubber belt is
cheap, silent.

ranii..... wira I believe the belts you refering to are the accessory belts
not the cam belts... that are noisy...
