Guys..especially to Kembara owner...any idea which is the best tyre for
Kembara DVVT? looking for good stability on high speed, wet and silence.
For sure cornering more stable. Bout Sime Alpine, any idea how much the
selling price? wish to trade in? Any experience with trade in too?

A little info regarding Sime Alpina tyre...

I would rate the stock Sime Alpina tyre provided by P2 to Kembara owner as
A/T (all-terrain) or L/T (light truck) tyre where the tyre compound is on
the hard side yet can be driven adequately on road.

Generally it will run noisier & less comfortable on pavement. However, due
to the harder tyre compound, it last longer than road tyre & has more
endurance when going through sharp or hazardous object.

Not long ago, when i go through a narrow & tricky bent, suddenly i saw a
stone lying in the middle of my lane & the most scariest part is that
there is a sharp edge on top of it~ Guess that some irresponsible person
did it in purpose... Angry

I try to avoid but there is another car beside my lane, so i just hit the
stone with this expectation in my mind that... "OMG... pancit la ni~"
After that, i take note on my tyre condition while driving & seems nothing
went wrong. Then later, i go & check the tyre & seems like it hardly
scratched! Wink

It just came into my mind that i hardly notice those big 4WDs here lying
beside the road because of tyre punctured. So the hard compound tyre
really does have its own capability.

Anyway, for tyre swap, try to ask for 'passanger' type tyre from the
salesperson. Or else take a look on the sidewall mark of H/T which stand
for highway terrain tyre.

Generally, a swap from the Alpina to passanger type tyre would contribute
to a more comfortable & silent ride.

However, as for high speed & cornering stability, i don't think it would
be a factor came from the tyre brand/type but as the entire wheel is
concern, a lower profile tyre would help. Which mean that opting for a
smaller size tyre instead of the stock 205/70 R15.

I too have been thinking about it & come to think of it, our Kembara
really does in stress with its an already 15" rim with another weight from
the big tyre. So later in time, i'd be getting a smaller size tyre, not
too small but personally to an acceptable extend of around 195/65 R15 with
road passanger tyre so i can get the best out of the comfort, acceleration
& fuel economy somemore save $$$ too! Big Smile

Ok..thanks...but i have another question...when i make u-turn..i can hear
a screeching sound and knocking sound from front tyre, i have made
alignment but the same sound still occured. but i am not confident enough
with the mechanic. anyone have this experience?

Redwin,
The screeching sound is cause by the tyre and the ground.
When the tyre start losing it grip during cornering, 1st u will hear
screeching sound. Slow down and no screeching sound.

Or change to better grip tyre.

Knocking sound need to identity the source 1st.
Got to repeat this knocking sound to mechanic or kembara sifu, get him
the identify the source.

Hmmm... where do u hear the noise come from? Is it metal sound or from the
tyre?

If its the tyre, then not that surprising as due to the Sime Alpina brand
tyre.

BTW, as i do recall, your Kembara was DVVT (M) right? What is your mileage
currently?

I did remember that while my Kembara was still new, i can hear mechanical
thing almost anymore from the tyre, suspension, to steering wheel.

Oya, i do remember that my Kembara was running under 'unbalance' steering
input. In other word, i can steer more to the left but less steering space
to the right. Not sure about other Kembara but i've checked my aunt's
Kembara & seems like the steering input is also the same as mine too.

To rectified the problem, i do some calculation to adjust the steering
then after removing & readjust the steering myself, as by that time my
steering direction look unbalance, i go to get my alignment done & now i
can steer the same amount for either both direction.

I found this problem when i was using my wider 17" wheel. The tyre will
not hit the metal part when full steer to the right but irritating tyre to
metal scratches noise will occur when almost fully reach the steer to the
left.

Not sure whether Bridgestone Potenza 205/70R15 95S available in Malaysia
or not...

My source says original "kembara" use either Dunlop, Yokohama or
Bridgestone.... The one that available "on-site"... (READ:K3-VET - use
Bridgestone Potenza)
