How do you tell if the clutch plates need replacement? Lost of power, high
fuel consumption,...etc?

Is there a particular way to drive the car and find out if the clutch
plates are worn out and slipping?

Thanks in advance.

vernond,

Start car, Pull hand brakes tight, engage fourth gear, accelerate a little
and slowly release the clutch. If engine dies off, your clutch is still in
good condition. If can accelerate some more, you can say bye bye....

If clutch is heavy, your pressure plate going....

vr2,

Thanks for your replay. Your replies are always good and if there is a
rating like those in yahoo answers I think you would be very highly rated.

Hope you or anyone else can help me further. I did as vr2 suggested and
found the clutch plate and pressure plate worn out. Replacing both this
items did not solve my initial problem, which was slight jerking at low
speeds when 2nd or third gear is engaged.

The jerking occures most when I accelerate after going over a speed
breaker. By the way I drive a wira 1.8. Thanks in advance.

vernond,

Thank you for your kind words.
Anyway, we are here in this forum to learn and/or exchange ideas/problems
that we have had faced or encountered. If i know or have encountered this
problem before, ofcourse I will post it to help another. If not, why bother
to be in this forum.

Actually you will find me more in "tyre and wheel talk" as I am more
fimilar with that subject. "Auto Maintanance" posting - what I have
encountered or learned from my mechanic. "Car Modification" posting -
mostly what I have encountered on my own mod.

Anyway, glad I was of help to your first problem.

Regarding your car jerking, very hard to access without physically tetsing
it, but it seems more from engine or engine tuning then from gear box/clutch.

my iswara has this high pitch noise while releasing the clutch from 1st and
2nd gear. the noise only emits when i do not put enough throttle.
could it be the bearing be worn?
does not depend on temperature as this noise happens both cold start and
normal driving.

come to think of it..the sound became much more frequent after a track day
event.....

thanks in advance.

tifoman,

Could be the release bearings.
Have to be check further by your mechanic.
If cannot find problem, then got to open up gear box.

vernond,

I think the problem is on the flywheel. You might have uneven flywheel
surface which was caused by previous worn clutch. Your new clutch set
might not be able to get consistant grip during pick up on 2nd gear. Most
of the time this jerkiness would go away after running in.

Consult your mechanic, see if flywheel skimming would solve the problem
or not.

YSW,

How have you been?

Yes, you are right. Could be flywheel problem as recently kena also.

My clutch is about a year old, before the jerk or judder started only on
first and reverse gear at slow speed. Worst during cold weather.
Had the flywheel skimmed and problem was solved but only for 3 months.
According to my mechanic, maybe clutch not compatable, so skim again and
change to new clutch. So far so good. but still new. So hope it does not
act up again.

rdgs,
