Hi Acokia, just curious...what year is your city? old model or new
facelift one? Did change your CVT transmission oil every 20k at Honda SC? If you do all these and your gear box still got problem, then you need to complain to Honda Malaysia in PJ. Honda City's CVT gearbox is very sensitive and need to use Honda genuine transmission oil. It seems that this oil is honda patented. Total diff than other oil. |

Most of my friends used more than 3 years didn't face this problem. But
I've heard of it before. I also own a City & the SM advice me to change CVTF for every 20k km although spec was 40k km. Your City register on which months/year? |

acokia,
Which service centre and exactly what problem? Did you feel there was a problem? Honda recalled the City (2003-2005) batch to change to correct CVT fluid and update ECU ... either side of the upgrade, I've had no probs, mine is a late 2004 Vtec. If my car is 3-5 years old, and I have religiously followed maintenance schedule at authorised service centre, and they tell me my gearbox got prob, I'm going to assume I was sold a defective design to start with, and I'm going to take the manufacturer to court ... at least, to start with, the consumer claims tribunal. So get the details from the SC, get to Honda and don't let them get away with asking you to pay for a new gearbox after just 3 years ... |

if they knowingly all honda civic got this design problem, they should
have recalled instead of wait until warranty laps then charge customers. This is a violation to consumer's basic right. Go file law suit against malaysian honda secara besar besaran ok? |

I sense hidden agenda from your post. What is your City's chasis number?

I also heard from my friend that earlier batch of City has got problem
with the CVT gearbox. Whats your mileage? Gearbox that doesnt last usually got defects, just like what happened with 1st batch Waja. |

City's CVT g/box is a 1st generation CVT, so there's alot of engineering
trial and error, which cannot be fully tested under controlled/laboratory environment, only under real world usage. The fact that even Honda can wrongly prescribed fluid for its CVT g/box during its initial year showed just how new and unfamiliar CVT technology is to Honda people during the early years. That's why most manufacturer like mitsubishi for example stated which generation their CVT g/box, such gen III CVT g/box, which are modified and re-engineered after real world test and feedbacks. In this worst case senario I pity the people who take 9 years loan and might have to fork out RM27k for a new gearbox after warranty period expires, which could be just 3 years after purchasing the car brand new. |

If that happens, I would test the case in claims court. And I suggest
everyone else does the same. Don't take such crap quietly. |
