I went to check out the Hin Leong (kilang papan) tel:603-33419866 since
there were so much hype about them here. This is my personal view of the
place:

Pro
---
1. Price are really good, better than Ban Hooi or any place in Klang
2. Large 2nd hand tire stock
3. Quick job
4. Near to town - close to Klang Cendol Tongue

Con
---
1. Bad customer service
2. Old stock tyres
3. Questionable job quality
4. Price does not include balancing or alligment
5. Hard to find parking

I prefer to go to the H2O Tyre further upfront tel:603-3342 0254. See Mr.
Ng. Good service but a bit slow. Price is not much different than Hin
Leong, but you can nego to get balacing, alignment, tube & nitro for free
Smile

However always check the date of the tyres you are getting.

Good luck

>>>Good service but a bit slow.<<<

I like this. Do you mean good slow service? Just joking ha! ha!Big Smile

Anyway, I have checked out Klang prices but not at the places you
mentioned, and they are pretty much higher.
Base on these two shops compared to those in Sunway etc., I wonder how much
difference to cater for a long trip to and from Klang (Petrol and toll too)
Does it really save? What about if tyres are out of balance or alignment
not that straight, go back to Klang again to redo?

Just for discussion sake..........

I think even if tyres cost are more by RM10 each, I am willing to go to the
higher cost one provided that he:

1. is knowledgeable about which tyres are best for your car,
2. willingly rectifies any area of dissatisfaction such as balancing and
alignment without further charge,
3. good support stuff that don't mishandle your car.
4. gives you new stock tyres,
5. values you as a regular customer and gives you a good deal, though not
necessarily the best.

I wouldn't want to buy from a shop that gives me the lowest price, but
treats me like he doing me a big favour and try to short change me by
giving me old stock or some other sleight of the hand trick like the
Petaling Street fruit sellers do.

I'm agree with karthik. Hin Leong got lot of hidden cost. U should ask what
the extra things and final cost. Normal price is for tyre and balancing
only. Sometimes they sell the product only without advise what is the best.
Once got problem, they not inform customer.. so, customer will come back to
the shop. Some customer from far place not return to this shop to correct
the problem. The important for them is only sell the tyre and earn
commission for tyre supplier.

Con
---
1. Bad customer service
2. Old stock tyres
3. Questionable job quality
4. Price does not include balancing or alligment
5. Hard to find parking

hmmm... thanks guys, already got two feedbacks.

Actually, that is what I meant like alfie mentioned.
fter sales service. If balancing and alignment is not good, just to go back
and get it done again, with petrol and toll cost I think the saving gone
already.

And again like ejan mentioned (yes, I have come across many shops) tyres
sell at very low price, but then start to add from balancing, alignment,
camber to even giving you very low trade in for tyres of new cars, to
Credit card charge, etc., etc.,
Therefore, must be very careful. We have to see total picture first.....

Hi vr2turbo,

Yah had to admit that statement was an bit "oxy-moron" Big Smile

I was attended by the owner - Mr. Ng and he took the time to bring out 5
diffrent tyres for my Harrier (not sure it's because it a Harrier) Tongue
but he explained the pro & con of each tire and "bunga" type. I finally
took the Bridgey H/T for $340 for a set all in. The best price I got from
Puchong & PJ for same model is $380 without additional thingy.

But to do the removal, intalling, alligmant it took about 25 to 30 mins
before the workers start. After that it was fast - it took about 15 min to
remove & install (they got 5 ppl working on that - like a pit crew in F1).
The alligment took abit longer. So in short the service is slow because I
missed my bakuteh session Angry. Oh the allignement was great - no
complain there.

vr2turbo,

There is always pros and cons in any situation. My gripe with KL/PJ based
tyre shops are they don't offer good pricing in the 1st place (yeah, yeah
higher rental, higher operating cost bla bla etc etc) and they refuse to
accept trade-in for good condition used tyres. In the end, they just sapu
your old tyre and sell it off to enrich themselves, which is a win-lose
situation. Do anyone want that if they have a choice?

I have been to Hin Leong and their pricing (and only pricing) was
fantastic. Imagine, 4 years ago, the BS Turanza ER60 185/60R14 was selling
for RM155-170 a piece in PJ area; Jalan 222, Sunway area, SS15 etc etc and
you know what? Hin Leong sold them for RM135 per piece. Same case with BS
B390 155/70R12 for Kancil where HL was selling it for just RM78 in 2004
and elsewhere (KL/PJ la, where else?) was selling from RM98-115.

That was the saving from new tyres. Now the trade-in part. For the ER60, I
traded-in my then Michelin Certis with 50% thread remaining for RM35 a
piece. So now, when you add up the savings I can get from a pice of tyre
was RM55 minimum. I always change 4 tyres in one go, so that figures to
RM220 saving. Balancing thrown in free too. Tyres were fresh too.

As for the BS B390 case, I traded in the useless Sime Arena (with 50%
thread left, again) for a good RM20 a piece. Now, again, I can save a
minimum of RM40 a piece. Total saving would RM160 minimum wit wheel
balancing. Tyres were fresh in this case.

Having said (actually, it should be 'save") that, there are cons in
dealing with them. I am sure you have heard of the camber bolt scam in
Klang right? Just don't fall for that. Same applies to air valve. I have
never asked them to do any wheel alignment nor change any air valve. The
reason is simple, they can't do alignment or balance the tyre properly;
maybe they aren't train that well.

In the end, it is up to the individual to assess whether the savings can
add up to contra off the effort and risk to get tyres from them. For me,
it worked to my favor. Just my 2cents.

Regards.

Hidden cost?
I dont feel so. I been to Ban Hooi and Hin Leong. I just prefer Hin Leong
cos price is cheaper. When you buy 4 new tyres and they dont do balancing,
fck em. They do balancing free without charging la. However they do charge
for air valve but what are you complaining for anyway? They only charge
RM1/pc if you want the rubber type. Unless you want the stainless steel
one which would last longer and looks prettier. However it will cost u
RM10/pc. Honestly if you went there to change performance tyres like Eagle
F1, Azenis ST115, ES100 etc, I dont think I would mind these tiny charges
cos you do save A LOT, and I MEAN A LOT.

For example, Eagle F1 195/55/R15 only cost RM200 there. If you ask
anywhere in KL, easily around RM260++ though they provice free allignment
+ balancing. But in Klang, you save RM240 for all 4 tyres and its more
than enough to pay the tolls, air valve, balancing plus a nice meal in an
air-conditioned seafood restaurant. Go figure. If change normal tyres,
better do it near your place. Waste time go Klang nia.
