Is this common issue for vios on the drive shaft ?
Toyota service center need around 4k to fix the problem for both side.
Outside workshop they say can change the drive shaft head which cost RM 250 inclusive labour.
That part is HDK made in japan.
Toyota service center told me they dont have such drive shaft head, if wanna change, they change entire drive shaft arm!
Anyone change those before ?
Pls share your opinion / advice.
Thanks in advance.

genuine parts from UMWT are more expensive but the advantages are..
1. high quality component made of high quality material
2. designed to fit ngam-ngam.
3. 1 year or 20,000km warranty
4. should last longer than OEM.
but if budget is tight, OEM parts are ok one. at least 1-3 years can tahan. maybe even longer. cross your finger lah.

You car worth about RM 50K now.
RM 4K is 8% of your car price.
Spend 8% of your car price for the drive shaft? But i think it can buy you confident as toyota orig parts are safe.
I did my vios 2005 both side drive shaft replacement at external workshop for less than RM 250 and now it still rocks after 1 year. (i am unsure if the part is safe or not but i have to believe it is safe . External workshop will need to use a very big hammer, knock and knock to fit the new drive shaft head. Kind of little unprofessional but it works, we never expect professional worker and machine when pay rm250, right?
For all other 5 years vios owner, do have workshop inspecc drive shaft rubber and replace it early if signs of tear. After it tear it need to replace entire drive shaft head instead of rubber as there are sand or all other dirts enter the shaft d. (my workshop tell me if i found it earlier can replace rubber only, unsure if toyota have this kind of service).

some toyota SC guys that the way they knock might spoil the auto gear box. This will cost RM 20k for new one if spoil
What to do, servicing outside is cheap and we always have Pro and Cons
We have to bear the risk if it din't work. But if it work well, then you can save.
Hope it can rock for another few years after the fix as i don't plan to change the car yet since it is still
a good car to drive
Thanks ya all for your comment and advice.

Toyota SC is trained to give all this kind of advise... My observation, they knock the most at the drive shaft itself to replace the drive shaft head and didnt knock hard to install drive shaft into your gear box. Never heard of any 'sifu' damage the gear box by doing so. Nowadays we can get second hand orig gear box from japan for a relatively cheap price.. (maybe change engine to 1.8 VVTI together for price < 20K).

If you spend some time to ask around or search auto forum, you should be able to find solutions/suggestions given by other forumers.
In my case, I did the same thing with cost around RM110, 8 months ago, of course not ori from Toyota. So far so good.
