I would like to seek the wisdom from fellow members of this forum
concerning paddle lock installed for Toyota Hilux.

The one that I have fitted is the type that has double locking system
mounted on the steering column that locks the brake paddle.

My question....

In the event of a severe frontal collision, the steering shaft that is
supposed to collapse, will the paddle lock, which is mounted on it,
jeopadize the collasible function?!....

I do not want to increase the security of the Hilux and give away the
safety feature of the collasible shaft.

Appreciate and welcomes feedbacks as i'm sure a lot of Hilux owners has
installed paddle locks. Tahnks a million.

Quite a dangerous question to answer. I'm not sure if anyone will answer
to this. Most installation of the paddle lock are done without
consideration of safety, only added security..

Personally I think you will affect the collapsible shaft and increase
safety risk during accident, since the paddle lock is so strong and built
to overcome impact.

zeroCT,

I did have the same question you ask about after I install the lock tech on
my avanza , the same worried will the peddle lock blocking/prevent the
steering column collapse.

I did call lock tech to get it's answer ,after listen to my question this
is what he repy : so far there is no such case happen that the lock will
preventing the steering column to collapse during frontal collision.

I do found out that only toyota model fitted on steering column and for
honda model all fitted on body/firewall.

so I call toyota free phone to get it answer & they want me to visit their
branch to found out how it work.at prai branch was refer to a person in
claim department & he explained to me how it work's during frontal
collision and show me the car which undergo repair after collision.
looking at the car (vios) they repair where they take out the dashboard, you
can see a moving space for about 3 inches at steering column and that mean
the steering only collapse about 3 inches during collision.
the place where the lock mounted on is below the moving space so when the
steering collopse the lock is slide down about 3 inches as well , so it
will not jeopadize the collapsible function.

pay a visit to the branch and look at the car undergo repair ,you will have
a clear picture by your own eyes..
