Personally I would rate Saab better than Volvo in terms of design and build
quality. When it comes to design and technology I think Saab is way ahead of
Volvo. In the early 80's when Saab used to be distributed by Aspatra, those
9000 variants came with fuel injection as well as turbo whereas the Volvo
240 variants came with that Stromberg carburator.

Later variants even came with multivalve engines. The thing is that Saab
parents company is actually producing aircraft whereas Volvo is only
dealing with motor vehicles. So the level of technology practised by Saab is
definitely higher. As a matter of fact the acroynm "Saab" stands for
Sweedish Aircraft Company.

Though the number of Saab cars in Malaysia is generally low, there is a
steady number of those cars of various model in Hong Kong.I think within
the East Asian region,Hong Kong happen to be their largets market.

For spare part,if you are driving the 900 S (Hatchback),special arrangement
to obtain used parts from Hong Kong as well as UK can be arranged.Check
with United Enterprise and Sun Eng Hup Segambut KL,somewhere near Segambut
Komuter station(behing Goh Ban Huat). If I'm not mistaken Sun Eng Hup do
have a Saab 9-5 halfcut unit on display.Or else check with Hakitrade
Enterprise, after Subang Airport. This guy stock up lots of used parts from
Hong Kong.A couple of older 9000 also on display.

volvoxc, you did not mention which version of the S60 or the 93 you are
looking into. Personally speaking I am not really a fan of VOlvo sedans.
Especially the S6/80 series, the rear does not appeal to me.
But the S60T5 is quite the runner. But it is still no BMW 330i
The new 93 on the other hand is still somewhat a new model, therefore I
would not put money into it just yet. But if you like the car, then go
for it.
I would personally wait until more options and variants for the 93. Now
if you are talking about the previous generation 93, then I'd say leave
it.

lesliejct, actually the reason why the 240s came with carbs is not
anything to do with the technology on the cars... did u know that Volvo
240s had fuel injections from 1979? It is just that the distributor in
Malaysia opted to have carbs instead of FI.

Also Saab's parent company from the early 90s has been GM.

However all said and done, Volvos have over the years proved to be more
reliable than Saabs... for the sole reason of the absence of any fancy
electronic gizmos.

ccl68, glad to see another ng900 owner on the board... where about r u
from? Maybe can get in touch sometime so can exchange notes and or
contacts.... do u by any chance know much about the audio systems in
these cars?

Hi Turbo,
Sorry for not replying sooner.
Yes. It would be good to meet another SAAB owner.
Currently I get the car cared for by Auto Eurokars in Glenmarie.
I do have a few faults with my car but small ones.
Overall, it has been a relax car, cruises at a license threatening speed,
but creaks a fair bit.
Can call me at 012 3664953 and we can TT sometime?

Cheers

Am seriously considering a Saab 9-3 LPT over the S60T. The Saab has better
specs that will leave the S60 for dead.

However, Federal Auto has been around for years and has established
dealer/service networks all over Malaysia. In contrast, Auto Eurokars is a
new Saab importer (after numerous previous importers) with only 1 service
center in Glenmarie

Anyone can comment on typical service cost at Auto Eurocars as opposed to
Federal Auto?

Saab produce technically sound cars but it just doesn't have the same
prestige and image to match BMW and Mercedes.
