It used to be a popular people carrier before the 'invasion' of MPVs and
SUVs. Wink

Wasn't the last production of this model in year 2002, how did it 10 years
ago?

I still see many of this model on streets especially tagged with
Kementerian Kesihatan. Charming front look, nice two-tone color but lack
the side & rear power mirrors.

Well, I'd appreciate it if someone can tell me more about it's FC,
handling, gearshift and reliablitiy because I plan to buy a used one.

Autoauction sales offers very attractive price, RM21K year 2001/2002
1.8XLT Auto.

Spectron 1.8XLT started on sale in Malaysia in 1988!!! It`s the same car
from 1989 to 1993 where 1st facelift was done...

It wasn`t until 2000 that Ford Malaysia did a 2nd facelift with 2 tone
colour, 2nd side door, Fuel injection Engine AND 4 speed Automatic
Transmission. It`s NOT a safe "MPV" as it has no CRUMPLE ZONES and Engine
below your A$$ => HOT front seats during LONG DISTANCE TRIPS!!!

FC is quite good but it`s using 1.8 old school 8v OHV (Pushrod) engine.

IT IS A VAN! Not a MPV. Ride and handling = hopeless. Rear leaf suspension,
cannot expect much! Dashboard also van like with BIG Steering. Last
facelift had column mounted Auto gear shift. Top speed: 140km/h only!
Again, It is a VAN!!!

I would suggest Renault Espace instead...

Since when Nissan Vanette was on its sale and when was its 1st facelift
introduced? It's still continued its godfather's design up today... no
new changes to its old engine and overall bodywork!

It's NOT a safe "MPV" as it has no CRUMPLE ZONES and Engine
below your A$$ => HOT front seats during LONG DISTANCE TRIPS!!!

It's ok if it's not an MPV, it's in a class higher than Vanette and Hiace
and Litace, which have no 4-speed auto trans.

FC is quite good but it's using 1.8 old school 8v OHV (Pushrod) engine.
***
Vanette is worse... it's merely 1.5L moreover it's a carb base!

Top speed: 140km/h only!
Again, It is a VAN!!!
***
I can't believe 1.8L EFI engine's top speed only 140km/h, r u sure?
Vanette is but Hiache can hit 160km/h, I did this.
It's a van then let it be lor... I wanna a van to carry alat-alat kerja
to site though MPV better just scare JPJ kek kek kek

I would suggest Renault Espace instead...
***
Do you hv a pic of that? How's its price look like? Auto? Good FC?

Thanks

Top speed is 145km/h! (As tested by Cars.My magazine)
Why? Because it`s Automatic. All the rivals you mentioned (Vannette and
Hiace) are Manual. Do you know that in Japan, Van`s and K-Cars are
restricted to 140km/h.

HIACE 160km/h??? Brother, Hiace is of different
class! It has bigger "CC" (2.0 Petrol OR 2.4L Petrol OR 2.8 Diesel VS
1.8! (Ford)) and seats up to 15 (vs 8)!!! Actually Hiace can go up to
180km/h (2.8 Diesel model)... It`s like comparing Civic and Accord,
saying Civic more classy than Accord...

SPECTRON IS ONE CLASS HIGHER THAN HIACE? No way, again, Hiace has bigger
CC, seats up to 15. In Japan and HK, Hiace is a hit car - bestselling
vehicle in HK). They mod it to the max. Even YAKUZAs own one (Fully
modded).

Eg of modding: 18" wheels, Digital meter panel, climate control, TRIPLE
SUNROOF, lowered, tinted, exhaust, turbokit, NOS Kit,HID, disco lights,
TV, Video, DVD player, fridge, sink with running water, gas stove,MEGA-
ICE (In-car entertainment), Leather seats (with Limo like trim), queen
size bed. And the list goes on!!!

Here is the links:

AND Lastly:

Forget about Renault Espace since you want to "Carry Alat kerja". Espace
is a High Class MPV. With a lot higher maintenence (for you). Not
for "Chor Kang" (Abuse).

QUOTE: "It`s a van then let it be lor... I wanna a van to carry alat-alat
kerja to site though MPV better just scare JPJ kek kek kek"

If it`s then it`s up to you since you already decided to go for it... A
2002 model is around RM33k market price. Anything lower is a BONUS!!!

Hmm..

Ever wonder why you see more Vanette than Spectron on the road? That is
because you are comparing 2 different classes! It should be either
Vanette vs Econovan, or Spectron vs Serena (97-00). Well.. since you
include an HIACE(?) in this comparo, i assume you have no idea or clue of
what are you comparing about. Comparing a true-blue work horse with a
purposed-built luxury ppl mover..

People mainly bought Vanette as a work-horse (same purpose with the other
Ford work-horse - the Econovan), to be used & abused with less
maintanance AND the most important part - good fuel consumption. This is
why the retain the same 1.5 carb engine formula (originated from C20 back
in 1980 - also old school!) till present day. Why mess with perfection?
Ever wonder why the Econovan came in two engine (1.4 & 1.8) last time?
It's kinda 'neither here nor there' situation. 1.4 - good FC, but quite
underpowered. 1.8 - good power, not so good FC. Not to mention higher
road-tax.

Vanette C22 was introduced in Malaysia in 1989. FYI, it went thorugh 2
facelifts - which INCLUDED bodyworks change - slimmer headlight +
integrated fog lights, new design body-coloured bumpers, rear wiper (94);
additional grille, different front sheet-metal, dual tone rear lamps,
p/windows as std.. etc (98). Well it did continued so called 'godfather'
overall design till today, but.. why mess with a champion? Whilist the
Spectron used the same overall body stamping from an Econovan - which
dated baaack in 1984, when nissan is still selling its C20 (which is also
a class best-seller!).

True Vanette got it's 6-seater nee-luxury 'Elite' as a family round-
about. If this is what you comparing with, then check-out their price
differences. And lest not forget, Vanette is playing a multi-tasking role
here..

Spectron is the best of what Ford can offer to public in Malaysia as a
fully luxury recreational vehicle (..if we can call it so..). Nissan, on
the other hand, decided to leave the Vanette to continue it's role, and
have Serena to play the upper task. Plus, it qualified to be called as an
MPV. Don't forget, serena's engine also under front seats! Now, are you
dare to compare Spectron with Serena?

Finally, do people really need to run 160km/h IN A VAN? A van is normally
geared for heavy-loading and torque-matching, not to achive a break-neck
speed.. but you can with a Serena.

Alas, i'm not a Ford-basher. Spectron is a nice looking van, and
honestly, I also wanted one last time, FYI. I like the fact it got rpm
dial, std power window, power steering, 14 alloys etc. It really on the
class of it's own. But get your facts right before comparing..

The Spectron is basically a van, just like the Toyota Lite Ace and Nissan
Vanette. Of course, they can dress it up to look like an MPV. I said look
like.

The driving position is where the main difference lies. In a van, the
driver's seat is above the front axle, but in an MPV the driver sits
behind the front axle, pretty much like a car. Same goes for an SUV. Smile
