I am not driving a Optra but owning a Aveo, so my opinions are not exactly accurate and mostly are hearsays..
From what I heard from an Optra 1.8-owning friend, fuel economy is below-average compared to newer cars, but it's comfortable, stable, quiet and powerful.
As for parts, it should be readily available, as there are still plenty of these older Chevys (Optras, Aveos, Nabiras) running on our streets (a good sign, or the owners are unwilling to sell due to the extreme low resale values and since these cars are pretty tough, better to just keep it, as is my case). You could easily service the Optra at places like Korean Car Mates.
As for things to look out for..was talking to an Optra owner while I was servicing my Aveo He said that it's difficult to check the ATF fluid condition due to the fact that it has no ATF dipstick, and that the suspension parts can be fragile (similar to the Aveo) and that the gaskets tends to leak and needs replacing often (might just be his particular car). Besides that, it's a good car.

I'm owning the Optra 1.8 05/07, behaving it for more than 5yrs, still serve me well, only perform some service & change the Gear selector sensor before, other than that, no issue so far.
I got not much thing to share, as for consumption, is depend on how you look at it basically should be around 12cent/KM
I usually server at 10K interval, 20K for ATF change & 60K timing belt change.
I use this as 2nd car & after 5yrs having it, the meter just 68K which really under utilize it.
Anyway, is a good car to drive, something annoy me is the gear lock sensor, sometime it not release after 5yr having it & I will send it to disable it seem most of the optra owner do that due to the function is not so important for me.

Always believed that Chevrolets here are vastly underrated. They are good cars...just that somehow it has little or no image, thus contributing to it's low resale value. Still seeing a lot of Aveos, Optras and Nabiras running around. In my condo there're already 4 Aveos in total
Of course, provided you get a properly-maintained one, can't go much wrong with a used Chevrolet.

am not the person you had addressed to, but can still advice you a bit. I am still keeping my old Aveo around..
There's no problems with spareparts at all, as there are still plenty of Chevys running around, and there are specialist workshops that caters for Chevys, like Korean Car Mates. There are plenty of spareparts dealers too like Vanli etc. Daewoo/Chevrolets uses a plethora of GM parts from around the world..
Fuel consumption is not very good compared to new cars of course...but there's plenty of power from the 1.8. From what I could gather from owners, it's just like maintaining any other cars..nothing special about it. Certain parts can be expensive (especially original GM ones), but it will lasts.
The car is so cheap nowadays, I believe it's a very good buy, provided the car is well-maintained (miledge is not important, most important is that the car is maintained propertly. Don't ever trust those cars with suspiciously low miledge) and sells for less than 23,000-00.
