My Campro alternator kaput yesterday and quoted a new unit for RM690.00.
is the price ok? I'm so suprise that the Alternator can spoil so fast and
the worst part is it breake down 1 day after Proton 2 yest warranty.Call
the SA and they said 2 years + 1day is also consider more than 2 years
areadly.

Darkhorse,
You will see the Battery sign light up on the panel. Then you can still
manage to run for 1~2 day unitl you battery is flat.

waah, this is not a good news. my car is approaching its second year,
worried if i would face the same prob. is it normal for the alterrnator
to last only a couple of years?? what about other models?

My 1st alternator failure approx 4 yrs after recond unit used. New recond unit is rated at 90A vs old 80A. Part cost RM 145 + RM 45 for labour. Noticed batt indicator light up last Saturday morning. Drove around and noticed when rpm was 3k batt indicator went off. Came back if under 3k. Drove to battrey shop to check and confirmed is alternator not charging. Quickly drove to spare parts shop to buy recon unit for replacement. Car engine died on reaching the spare parts shop. Batt lasted about 1 hr with A/c on.
Funny thing is that before it died, my engine was running for 1 minute while rpm, speedometer and fuel gauge was zero.. Electric too low to power the meter.
The spare parts shop helped to jump start my car with a new battery and I drove back to the mechanic shop to replace the alternator. After replacement, drove car around for 30 mins to charge up the drained batt, now batt is ok. Luckily did not replace the batt as suggested by the batt shop.. perhaps can drag the lifespan for another 1yr or so. The mechanic mentioned a higher rating than stock 75 is better as it will charge up the batt faster for ppl with good ice setup can go for 100A rating.
