I cannot imagine it is so expensive for the drive shaft ~ RM5000. Any idea with it? She is considering for outside workshop as the warranty period is over.

why need to go back to UMW SC after your warranty period? enjoy of higher cost of maintenance?
my friend's 2005 vios front drive shaft(both left and right) change too recently, few hudred will gao tim, if i not wrong < RM 300 PER side only (buy part himself, replace by his friend who doing mechanic workshop).
10x cheaper than you do in UMW SC.
Vios, altis, camry does not really need to rely on UMW SC to service your car after warranty period as most of the parts are still sharing with old models..i believe a lot of quality and experience toyota technician outside...
Lexus other story (outside ppl might dun have the knowledge at all)

some people do enjoy the peace of mind they get with part warranty offered by UMWT - that is 10,000km or 12 months whichever comes first.

yes... depend to ourselves...
but sometime the driven shaft faulty caused by the plastic cover that surround it had broken. Then caused the driven shaft expose and infected by water or dust. So it's advisable to put the 4 wheels in straight line to prevent the plastic cover break.

RM300 for 1 side is very reasonable but the quality of the shaft must be determined. Furthermore a good mechanic is required.
Thanks for sharing.

toyota vios 1.5 drive saft brand new, made from taiwan
LH = RM 265.00 / pcs
RH = RM 265.00 / pcs
total = RM 530.00
normally, the original price for toyota of honda drive shaft is very expensive...normally not much afford to change...
therefore, spare part shop will import parts from Taiwan of Japan for substitution...in order to get cheaper part but equal performance... please do not assembly the drive shaft in town area...coz normally the price is out of the space...
if yours friend is interested to change the drive shaft...feel free to contact me for further information...

At the service center they (Toyota technical staff) should check all wear, tear & scheduled replacement and advice customer.
Do they really doing it?
For the drive shaft issue you can blame & claim the Toyota service center for damage. It is common that the drive shaft boot (rubber cover) wear & tear after some time (3-4 years). Proper inspection could have save thousands of ringgit.
What is "peace of mind", "economical" and "professionals" in their service brochure mean?

Two years on, and we are still using the same drive shaft that supposedly needed to be changed.
There is a special place in hell for crooked politicians and lawyers, I am told. They need to move aside to make room for crooked motor mechanics as well.
Moral of the story: When in doubt, get a second or third opinion.

I have went to toyota SC and they quote me 2.5k one arm (as they don replace just the drive shaft head, it come in 1 whole arm). So replacing 2 will cost me RM 5k.
I went to Seapark non-toyota SC to change it and it cost me RM 250 per side (couldnt remember the name of the drive shaft head but it wrote on the box 'made in japan'). Total cost me RM 500 both include labor charge.
