Alza is much better as i have driven both cars, Alza the power delivery is smooth. feels like got more power than Avanza. interior, can see that P2 did improve over the Myvi. u can feel the air cond on the 2nd row seats.
but this is based on my experience after testing both cars.

1. Larger, spacious headroom and better seat arrangement than avanza. 3rd row was acceptable for this class.
2. Alza was latest technology. Derived from toyota passo sette that launch last year christmas. Power delivery smoother than avanza even 1.5. It was FF car, avanza using FR.
3. Driving felt like sedan, monocoque body. Far lot more comfort than avanza. Better suspension than avanza. Seat was ok, not too hard or too soft. You can sit at middle row for both car, then u know which one will make u vomit.
4. Less maintainance on air-cond system. Check on air-cond, avanza was using double blower while alza using single but it was strong enough to cool down the whole cabin, even air-cond at level 2, 3rd row can felt the air-cond.
I tested the car few time already, as a driver and passenger with 5 mid sized and 2 small sized adult. The car still can performed well. You won't felt it struggled to run, responsive gearbox matching the engine as well. 120km/h only shown 3,000rpm. FC really can't comment as the manufacturer stated 12.7km per llter.
It really impressed me because I can't find any MPV that was selling lower than 59k for auto with below features:
a. 3SZ-VE, 1.5L Engine, DOHC 16V EFI, DVVT w/timing chain, 105ps horsepower to move curb weight of 1,160kg
b. An MPV that can felt like a sedan, it was comfort and silent. Body was good and acceptable quality, close to toyota quality
c. Simple and nice MPV which incured less sensor and electronics devices to maintain. Just nice to serve the nation.
3SZ-VE engine was used at Perodua Nautica, Toyota Rush and Toyota Avanza few year ago, expected will soon use at MyVi next year or new model. So far never heard any problem for it, lubricant changes and wear and tear only.
Suggested to get premium version with airbag, ABS and EBD cause it was very important equipment when your car was full loaded. Depends to your luck, I'm not so sure the QC for this model. From what I saw and test the show unit, it was average meet the quality.
For your info, I felt the car even better than Nissan Grand Livina 1.6

Here are the excerpts :
1. Taller in height (Referring to 3rd Row seating)
2. 3rd seats get better leg room
3. Avanza's air-cond blower from 2nd row seat (Better coverage on air blow than depending on ALZA's single blower)
4. After market Kits easily available
5. TOYOTA brand
6. Low (small) parts failure rate (Better driving experience)
7. Torque Level = 141NM (Alza' 130+NM); Kerb Weight = Diff 100kg+
8. Better trade-in value if want to upgrade to a new Camry; Perodua dun hv la
ALZA's advantage :
1. Nice meter display
2. Rear LED light
3. Gear shift mounted @ dashboard
4. 'Kick' brake lever
5. Better ICE offering
6. Fabric trim better
If owners prefer practical & more torque drive car = AVANZA ; If owner likes a 'nice' to look @ but minus practical drive & sluggish drive = ALZA. Remember, the rear end drive car has proven capable to car carry heavy load viz was why all Pick Up Trucks, Van & Lorry depend on the same configuration.

Ask your friend to test drive kao-2, especially d Avanza b4 commit; very important.
I had a shock when I 1st drove home my Avz 1.3A. It drives very differently from normal sedan, especially the high gear ratio intended for good pickup. If you can accept that, then only you start comparing other features. Many couldn't & ended up bashing Avanza.
