Hi, I have a 6+ year old Toyota Innova. Recently, in January 2014, the air cond started the blow non cool air out. I took the car to the air cond shop in Puchong, and the mechanic told me most probably it is the condensor coil which is leaking. Anyway, he topped up the gas for me, charged me RM120 and told me to try it out first.

The air cond was cold after that. However, starting in April 2014, the air cond started to blow uncool air again. Now, only in the early morning or night, will the air cond be slighly cold, but during the day, it can be killing driving around with the windows closed.

I called Toyota UMW, and they quoted me the following:-

To detect which component was spoiled: RM 50.

Condensor coil: RM3,300
Compressor: RM3000
Cooling or Evaparator Coil (x 2 unit Toyota Innova has 2): RM2,400 each
workmanship: Condensor coil : RM200
workmanship cooling coil: RM400

Hence, I got a shock that repairing air cond can come into thousands.

1. Hence, can I know if this is a sign of leakage somewhere?
2. If it is, what should I do?
3. There are so many shops with auto air cond service, which should I trust?
4. Should I spent RM50 and let Toyota UMW detect the faulty leaking part and than later go to the mechanic outside to change the part? For example, recon condensor coil is only RM450
5. Any air-cond shops around Puchong which is reliable? One that can really do everything, including Pressure Test to determine the leaking and fix it for a few hundred ringgit?

Do help advice as I am at a lost now on what to do and do not want to make a mistake or get cheated in any way.

Thanks,

Would you try a second opinion from Denso Glenmarie (I am assuming most Toyota use Denso and non-other brand)

Location:
http://www.denso.com...nt/location.php

I once sent my Wira1.6 (Denso aircond) there, and I had a good professional work from them. They ID the leak (Evaporator Coil) correctly, and replaced and fixed it well. Also they put in the (assuredly) original Denso gas + oil (which ever that apply to your car ND8 or ND9 or whatever).

I do not think that both Condensor coil and Evaparator Coil leak at the same time.
Also toyota sc miss out the receiver drier which should be a must change, especially when you are going to remove these item for replacement.

Leaking gas difficult to find unless you use soap bubble test. But only the workshop can do the whole things properly because they will open up all the covers to get access to the pipes.

I recently fixed my innova air con and the cost was siginificantly less.

New condenser - RM800
Dryer - RM100 each (2 units)

Compressor still ok, but labour was expensive because need to open up the dashboard, service and clean all the air con duct, and then added in air con cabin filter otherwise the condensor will get dirty again. Difficult to clean.
