Thanks Cucuk.

Leong, my kancil also has lots of carbon soot dropping on the floor. Do
you think engine is running too rich?

Yo gunner,

Don't take my words as gospel. You should consult the mechanic too. kekeke
Having owned the Kancil for 8years plus happily, heavy soot deposit at the
tailpipe is not a good thing. I think your air/fuel mixture is running
very rich. Dunno whether it is plain wrong setting or is it stuck auto-
choke. Should send your car for a CO (carbon monoxide) test. Your mechanic
should know what it is. If he doesn't, pm me and will let you know where
to go. SCs too should have this machine.

Regards.

TQ TQ leongts. I plan to take my Kancil to my mechanic this Saturday :

1) Change Gear Oil Castrol 90W
2) Flush Brake Oil Dot4
3) Grease steering rack, ball joints & rear wheel bearings
4) Check/Change Pak Kam
5) Tuning

I will share with you after that. Wish me luck.

carbon soot in exhaust tip is quite normal ler, if it's too rich, there
will be traces of petrol at the exhaust, not water which u will notice in
morning start up

i think kancil use dot 3 brake fluid, dunno can take dot 4 or not

Cucuk,

My exhaust is dry but sooty black black - anyway will get mechanic to do
a tuning as well. I think should be Dot3 according to manual. But I have
lots of Bosch Dot4 about 400ml left dont know what to do. Anybody want to
buy?

brake fluid very cheap only ler, up to you ler

try to tune at the P2 SC, those roadside mechanic not so familiar wif P2
cars, they usually tot all japanese cars tuning is the same when 3
cylinders tuning spec is a bit different in terms of idle mixture and
ignition timing

send my wife's car for engine tuning at P2 Sg Buloh. Cost me Rm15/= only.
Now fuel comsumption is good compared to before tuning.

Black dust coming out for exhaust, according to the P2 mechanic is normal.

Model : Kancil 660(auto), yr 96.

cucuk, carmaniac,

Ok ok thanks for your advice. I will take to P2 in next oil change.

I send to my mechanic today and asked his opinion on the steering noise.
He mentioned Kancil drive shaft always very "kacau" and will shudder
during 1st gear pick-up like no power like that. He said normally must
change both drive shaft but ask me to use until cukup masa for change
woh.

Any input on this based on your Kancil experience. Thanks in advance.

"I still encounter a shudder or jerking when in 1st gear picking up. "
- Dr House would say "2 simultaneous symptoms attacking"
I would say, Shudder maybe clutch wear uneven already..sounds like time to
overhaul
"Jerking" is usually when it mis-fire

Cucuk: "give mechanic to do ler, u need to know how to set the contact point
gap
ler, set wrongly will also jerk one, the best is to change to electronic
distributor, plenty of them in breaker yard "
- I`ve done it on both the Kancil and Sunny..Sunny was alot harder to do than
Kancil because it`s 4 cylinders (4 lobes) and heavier.Mech will happily take
RM 5 from u for `yam cha`..and another RM 10 profit for the contact. Some
simply "look and adjust" while I adjust according to specs and use feeler
gauge.
Electronic distributor is good..but RM 200+ for Sunny used one (Kancil
dunno)..can change alot of times per year liao,IMO.

leongts: Yeap..I would recommend first few times send for Bosch Engine
Tuning, big SCs have it..but careful of mechanics passing it as "OK" and take
your $$. CO level should be 1.5% plus minus.
If can..and u know where is the fuel mixture screw..sometimes adjusting it
ownself without CO% meter can be done; just make sure the idling doesn't
have misfiring=too lean.

And yes, there is carbon soot on the tailpipe on my ex-Kancil. Rather don't
look at the tail pipe always, open and look at your spark plug..it's always the
more truthful tale about your engine's tune..whether it's burning oil or too
rich.
