Hi Guys, I have 2008 Proton Gen 2 1.3. recently i overhauled the engine in jb to change the crankshaft and conrod to 1.6 and keep the 1.3 piston so that it will be high compression. after overhaul the engine oil pump cover was leaking oil so the shop took 3 months to repair it. than it has been fine. the fuel consumption is at 6.8km/l. the engine is very powerful but i noticed that oil level has decreased. when i took it out of overhaul i accidentally overfilled a little. but not too sure as it was dark. now it has come just below the full mark. the mechanic tells me it all normal. how to know if something is not right. I was using valvoline 5w40 synpower. Got it changed to Mobil 1 5w40 advance wear tech from japan yesterday. My only worry is a badly fitted piston rings or valve guides. any opinion thabks

You mentioned you kept the 1.3 piston, meaning the old piston or new ones but still using 1.3 ones.
A little oil consumption is quite normal. I am sure with the added power you do red line or high rev your engine. Engine that are driven to higher revs do consume some engine oil.
I think you better monitor it and see. Best to park on level ground and take the oil measurement in the morning. This is best as all oil has settled back to the oil sump. Fill to max, then check weekly...

vr2turbo thanks bro. Yea when i drive it i do rev to about 6500 now and than. how much oil consumption is normal. another thing is i have a lightened crank pulley and adjustable works cam pulley. the fuel consumption is super bad at 300km on a full tank of 50 litres till the fuel light is on ( i did change fuel pump to a 1.6 litre one but if im not wrong the 1.3 and 1,6 use the same pump) . could it be a wrong cam pulley adjustment. the mechanic who did it told me he set it so that the air intake valve opens later. or something like that for better high end power. Is there a way to tell if valve guides or piston rings are not installed properly? I am using my old 1.3 pistons (really good condition). the engine has 153000kms on it and always serviced with mobil one 5w-50 till overhaul i had the valvoline in it which was useless and i switched back to mobil 1 5w-40. I'm just worried that the overhaul was not done properly. i am a little paranoid with my car though. Thanks alot guys! your replies will really put me at ease!

Yah! I forgot to comment on the fuel consumption. You mentioned earlier 6.8km/l, that is similar to my Auto 2.0 SUV driven totally in town. Maybe because you are revving to 6.5k.rpm most of the time.... smile_tongue.gif
Malaysia got Mobil 1 5w-40? I only see the 0w-40 (Gold) and 5w-50 (Silver) sold here.
Like brother rally mentioned, maybe use back 5w-50 to control the oil consumption as 50 weight is thicker but you might feel the engine sluggish

Hi bro, now i change gear at 2k ot max 2.5 k and freewheel to traffic light still 6.8km/l. pocket painful. Could it be because of the adjustable cam pulley? the mobil 1 5w-40 i bought is from japan. so far quite ok. Is it normal for a recently overhauled engine to loose oil. Before overhaul i never lost oil bro. scarry!

But you are using back your old pistons, so should be same. Could be the longer stroke of the 1.6 crank, not sure your cylinder wall further down is ok or not?

possibly got some leaking there, have you check undercarriage ?

My 1.3 satria Neo have been stroked to 1.6 but then again i de-stroke it back to 1.3 due to future budget concern and loads of thing need to be done. its looks simple just stroking it but then again, there is a lot to be done in order to get the car running at its fullest capability and availability.
