PS = hp in metric system

1PS = 0.986 hp

The difference is too small to be of any significance.

In normal daily driving, when the engine typically rev in the low to mid rpm range, torque is more important than hp/ps.

A dynograph is more useful than a quote of max hp.

so if...

altis 1.6 = 145@4400
city 1.5 = 145@4800

or

stream 1.8 = 174@4300
accord 2.0 = 189@4300
civic 1.8 = 174@4300

just want to know how to compare smile_blush.gif

The only thing you can derive from this is the specific output of the engines, ie, the power output per 1000cc (or 1L);

The Altis 1.6L engine's specific output = 1.0/1.6 x 145 = 90.63PS/L

The City 1.5L engine's specific output = 1.0/1.5 x 145 = 96.7PS/L

So the smaller City's engine has a higher specific output as compared to the Altis.

The same with these sets of figures;

The Stream 1.8 and the Civic 1.8L share the same R18 engine. So they have the same PS rating;

1.0/1.8 x 174 = 96.7 PS/L

As for the Accord, 1.0/2.0 x 189 = 94.5PS/L

These figures will not tell you how well the car will perform, as the weight of the car is not known and factored in.

In the other words, the more important power-to-weight ratio is not known.

For example;

The Civic weigh about 1.2 tonnes, while the Stream weigh about 1.5 tonnes.

So the power-to-weight ratio per tonne, 1000kg is;

Civic, 1.0/1.2 x 174 = 144.99PS/ton

Stream, 1.0/1.5 x 174 = 115.99PS/ton

Therefore, although the two cars have the same specific output, the Civic has a better power-to-weight ratio.

So, obviously the Civic will perform better than the Stream on the road.

thanks for reply, so is that mean city more powerful than altis 1.6, and civic 1.8 better than accord 2.0?

Yes.

Civic/Stream and City have the same specific output and tie for first.

Accord came in second and Altis last.

I editted my post after you read it to include power-to-weight ratio.

Please read it again to the end.
