My Vios is 2 1/2 yrs old. Few weeks ago I can't seem to shift from P to R
while stepping on the brake pedal. I can only shift from P to R after
pushing the Shift Lock button, which is quite inconvenient. Has anyone
experienced this before? Will bring it for a check up later, just asking
around.

babylexus,
Do you change your auto transmission fluid on recommended intervals? That
auto gear box is bloody expensive.

The shift lock button is precisely that: to prevent accidental shifting
out of P. I would be very surprised if you have been able to engage R
from P without depressing the shift lock button first.

How often do I need to change it? FYI, the mileage is still less than
14,000 so far.

Toyota may be reputed in quality but they never declared defect-free
products. It seems to be a rare case, just bring it back to SC & make
some noises, they should attend to it.

This is not transmission fluid nor transmission box problem. Just that a
switch at the brake padel which suppose to control the unlock action is not
functioning. The unlock shift button is the manual way to override it when
this happens. Just get the switch changed and everything will be fine.

SPS youre wrong. shift lock is for when no key in the ignition or brake
pedal press while u still can shift your gear from P to R with Shift Lock
button pressed. evryone can shift from P to R without shiftlock button
depressed, if youre driving a tyt u should know.

Your fuse blown. If not mistaken, the fuse is located inside the gear shift
cover. You have to take off the cover to change the fuse.
