Hi all,

I'm new in here and need advise to replace the old tyre from my car for 1st time.
I'm currently own a Myvi with stock tyre Goodyear Eagle NCT5 175/65R14 and intend to upgrade to new set of tyre with the size 185/60R14.

Currently I have been offer:

Yokohama A-Drive - RM140 each: free balancing & alignment
Bridgestone Turanza AR10 - RM170 each: free balancing & alignment
Falken ZIEX912 - RM150 each: free balancing & alignment
Goodyear Ducaro GA - rm160 each: free balancing & alignment
Michelin PP2 - rm180 each: free balancing & alignment
Yokohama AD07 - RM200 each: free balancing only

My question:
1. I'm looking forward to have:
- better grip in wet and dry
- quiet and comfortable ride
- can last longer (at least 35,000km or more)

which one should I choose? (Or you have better suggestion?)

2. I found from the internet that there are Yokohama C-Drive with size 185/60R14 in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Most of the Yokohama dealer listed in YHI Malaysia mentioned it is no longer available, is it true?

3. Is it true that the valve need to be replaced if the tyres change? They offer me RM5 for rubber type and RM10 for steel type, is it worth for the price?

4. I have been told by my friend that most tyre shop will ask you to change chamber nut. They told me I should not change it because these are not needed to add/replace for my car, am I correct?

5. Is it good to have nitrogen gas pump in to tyre? I was told it did help in Fuel Consumption. Another guy told me it's not worth for Myvi as the car body is big, easily get involve with accident.

6. How much air pressure should I pump for new set of tyre 185/60R14 ? (Normally I pump around 31 psi for front and rear tyre.)

Your reply is much appreciate.
Thanks again. smile_blush.gif

Michelin XM1 186/60/14.

Comfort, quiet and smoothness. Running 3rd set XM1 for my house Wiralution now, old fashion tread pattern but nevermind, it works during wet !! Depends on your usage, XM1 is well known for good tread wear..30-40k should be no problem.
The car is only 4years but 200k mileage on board smile_tongue.gif smile_thumbup.gif previously, it has Sime Astar, Accelera Indo tyre and other type of wheel...but after switch to XM1, my family members like it...even passenger can feel the smoothness, that's why the upcoming replacement is always Michelin ...

Cost rm190 over in penang island..trade in for old XM1 rm80 per piece.

Change 4pieces of tyre at one time, rubber valve(which cost rm4 per piece), balancing & alignment should included in the price..

185/60/14, i put in 33psi front and 32psi at rear.

There can be only one . âã

AD07 should not be in the list since you are asking for comfort and quiet ride..just look at the tread pattern, very aggresive look! smile_tongue.gif smile_evil.gif

For this size, I will opted for 912 instead of the XM1 loh .. I used many sets of XM1 oredi and pretty sure 912 are better than XM1 overall + pricing.

The XM1 are quitter when new but after grained for 30%. .is almost the same like 912. Performance wise, I believed the 912 will be better than XM1. your family members like it also bcoz u're comparing with those sime ..and indon..

Just my opinion hor~

Yeap, the car is fit with Sime Astar, after that change to Accelera , then Goodyear ducaro i think.
Accelera is the worst among all, very noisy and bumpy

The problem is XM1 is a Michelin smile_blackeye.gif I am not bias, just like an ordinary user who trust branded tyre.. smile_blush.gif

If you are a comfort slow driver, the XM1 are okay, but if slightly into performance than this are not the tyres.
Moreover, they are not value for money, as they cost much more than the ZE-912.

Yokohama A-Drive - RM140 each: free balancing & alignment
for comfort, average traction
Bridgestone Turanza AR10 - RM170 each: free balancing & alignment
for comfort, Not much review for this tyre
Falken ZIEX912 - RM150 each: free balancing & alignment
for comfort, handles quite well in dry and wet
Goodyear Ducaro GA - rm160 each: free balancing & alignment
For comfort, touring tyres
Michelin PP2 - rm180 each: free balancing & alignment
better grip is wet and dry, but a bit noisy and bumpy
Yokohama AD07 - RM200 each: free balancing only
Performance tyres, very good dry grip, average wet grip, very bumpy and may be noisy

My question:
1. I'm looking forward to have:
- better grip in wet and dry
- quiet and comfortable ride
- can last longer (at least 35,000km or more)

which one should I choose? (Or you have better suggestion?)
Looks like it is between AR-10 and ZE-912. Each tyres have it's pros and cons.....
but we have many forumers on the ZE-912 with positive feedback

2. I found from the internet that there are Yokohama C-Drive with size 185/60R14 in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Most of the Yokohama dealer listed in YHI Malaysia mentioned it is no longer available, is it true?
The C-Drives are available, but may be less in the market. They are now made in the Philippines and not Japan.

3. Is it true that the valve need to be replaced if the tyres change? They offer me RM5 for rubber type and RM10 for steel type, is it worth for the price?
If your tyres were used from new until bald, which should be quite a few years then the rubber valves should be changed with every tyre change. If you are using the metal valves they will last longer and you can just tighten the lock nut, unless your washers / O-rings in between have been damaged.

4. I have been told by my friend that most tyre shop will ask you to change chamber nut. They told me I should not change it because these are not needed to add/replace for my car, am I correct?
If your camber is really out, then you will need a camber nut. What you friend is mentioning is some tyre shop will try to con you into putting in one even though your car camber is alright.

5. Is it good to have nitrogen gas pump in to tyre? I was told it did help in Fuel Consumption. Another guy told me it's not worth for Myvi as the car body is big, easily get involve with accident.
Won't help much. Is there a shop nearby, where you can refill the nitrogen for free, if not it will defeat it's purpose.

6. How much air pressure should I pump for new set of tyre 185/60R14 ? (Normally I pump around 31 psi for front and rear tyre.)
Depends on the tyres you use. If soft sidewall like ZE-912, put in a little more. You can actually test yourself. Start with your usual of 31psi. If wobbly, put in more. If bumpy, let out some, but do not go below 28psi and above 38psi.

Your reply is much appreciate.
Thanks again. smile_blush.gif

Hope I have answered most of your query above in blue....
