hi!

I bought a second-hand SAGA BLM which was lowered.
I thought it looked cool but with my family in the car, my tires are always scrapping the wheel bay, specially the ones at the rear.
So I opted to install brand new original coil springs.
However, it seems that the height of the car is much taller than the original.
The mechanic says its ok. but I have serious doubts.
Any ideas of what could have gone wrong?

fyi absorber for fl model has its front spring seat higher than blm model.thus, yr car could be on fl absorber so its higher than usual.

if u had only installed it for a few days, drive around with yr family to let the spring settle down.

btw, how tall is it?

Hi bro. Thanks for the reply
The clearance between the tire and fender is about 5 fingers or more
I think I should have this changed to the original spring for BLM

Last time when i was on sapura sport spring and on stock tire size, i can carry 3 adult at the back without scrapping.
i am guessing yours is on aftermarket rim.

Yes, the previous owner installed 15in rims
Hence, the scraping tires with a full load in the backseat.
heck, even with just my 2 kids and my wife in the backseat, the tire scrape already
So, I asked a local shop here in Melaka to install bnew original springs.
now i think he installed the one for FLX.
I'll have to return and get the one for BLM.
Thanks for your advise!

On second thought, a 16in rim would be nice now that i have sufficient clearance. smile.gif

Scrubbing of fender on 15" rims, means the offset is wrong. Using 195/50R15 tyres the overall diameter is very close to the original tyre size, unless the tyre also over sized.

If you use 16", not to say cannot, but the width and tyre size will drag your car power

Bro,i am from melaka too.
i just recently change back to std spring.
i oso have a heavy duty rear spring for blm.its very good for those whom carry load most of the time.

fyi, stock blm spring are too soft on the rear and i do think u might still sagat the fender when carrying load.
bad side is the rear will tonggek a bit with the heavy duty spring.
maybe i only carry load occasionally last time so it does not have time to seat properly.

did u notice stock blm with its front end pointing towards the sky with 3 adult at the back?thats how soft it is.
with the heavy duty, load it with 4 adult and its just like stock spring with slight load.
not recommended to drive fast though.

Bro, thanks for your reply.
Does it mean that even with lowered and 15-in rims, the tires should not be scrubbing with the fender with load at the rear as long as the offset is right? How to ensure correct offset?

Yes, with the right rim offset and right tyre size.
BLM original tyre size is 185/60R14, right? If yes, then convert to 15" use 195/50R15. Overall diameter is smaller by 0.28% which means almost same size.
The main problem is always the rims, because 15" normally comes with offset 38 and 35 if not mistaken. If possible to find offset 40 and higher like 45 will be better.
Offset number, the smaller the number the further out the rims, therefore the bigger the offset number the rim goes further in, so getting anything higher then 40 will be safe but I think hard to find.
