hmmm ... i was checking the classifieds .... first 10 pages of autoworld
used car pages, equal number of City (2003 onwards) and Vios for sale.
Motor Trader, more Vios for sale than City ..in Star Classifieds
yesterday, more Vios than City for sale ... I did not include the new car
offers and repeat postings ... so there's the empirical proof otherwise.
as for price, toyotas usually have better resale value than hondas ...
but what do i know, i'm only an "unfortunate" city owner ...

So far, none at all, and my drive seems to get smoother by the day.
In 2 3/4 years, this is my record:
1. Car recalled early last year for ECU update, CVTF change - either side
of the change/update, though, I didn't detect any transmission or engine
issues. Finger crossed, knock on wood, etc ... :) so far, so good, in fact,
great.
2. Rear wheel bearings had to be changed once, under warranty.
3. During service once (last year), they had to replace the engine oil seal
or gasket, not sure, but minor thing, warranty covered.
4. did air-con service early this year, after 3-4 months, some white powder
started coming out of vents. Problem rectified by SA immediately, in 1/2
day. Fine now.
5. Battery died on me once. Under warranty.
6. Remote locking system - the Cobra alarm uses a running code, and when
this goes wonky, it gets irritating. I once thought battery had died, but
turns out I had to reprogram the remote (as advised by SA over the phone,
very helpful).
7. My biggest thrill is the smooth engine and fuel economy, which is
getting better, I range from 12.5-14.5 km/l. Two things that are a let
down - the overall ride, and the cheap interior.
On the other hands, you don't want to hear about the list of probs I had
with my Citroen BX in the early-mid 90s and Citroen ZX wagon from mid-90s
to early 00s ... my previous Ford Ranger and current City are gems in
comparison. I sold the Range coz was fed up of driving a manual.
Anyone who buys my City gets a very well maintained and generally
hassle-free car. I bought a 1.5 on a compromise because I wanted to get my
wife a car too, and had to budget. Next year, a Honda Civic or Nissan Latio
... who knows ... :)

City is low end for h-wannabes.
You can't expect Honda's best stuff there.

Yeah, so are Toyota Vios, Nissan Sentra, BMW 1 series, Merc A series and
so on, all for wannabes ... you buy what you can afford, screw the
brand ... sometimes, even the best stuff gives problems ...

hi acokia,
at least I know mine is not the only case. I was also told something like
that but by an outside mechanic who did the overhaul for me. It blew a big
hole in my wallet...some RM3.8K, and he changed some ball bearings, did
some maintenance on the parts.
Its already six months, and I m very happy with the outcome. My mileage
was over the 100K warranty...~ 115K or so...and I was pretty disappointed too.
If you need the contact, let me know...I'll see if I still have his contact.

luckily i read this thread..my wife planning to buy a used 03 or 04 idsi
city as it's quite reasonable n good FC..
u guys sure city got gear box prob? can use recond gear box to replace?
Perdana V6 has the same prob but atleast wont have to fork out big bucks
coz recond costs abt 2k only..
no wonder nowdays 03' n 04' city costs 52k - 53k only (min price saw in the
star)
