hello guys, I'm wondering which one is better in terms of recond.
condition, build quality, reliability and maintenance issues between the
UK and Japan specs. I'm looking at year 2000 and above model, so can I
know which year did the latest W211 came out(so that I may find the last
W210, W211 is just bloody expensive, cant afford it besides for the same
price can get latest S320!).I'm under the impression that the UK specs
might get more corrosion on the undercarriage considering all the driving
on salty roads in the winter, but maybe the UK specs has higher built
quality considering their MB commitment to the brand there. Probably
japan specs. is in better shape but of lower built quality. Is that the
case?

Well, Mercs exported to the UK and Japan are all made in Germany, so the
quality should be the same. I was told that the advantage of Jap Mercs is
that they have much lower mileage than their UK counterparts.

Hmm... is that so? Then it should be OK then, considering they're all
coming from the same source/factory. Another thing, are there any horror
story of people buying recond merc from a dealer, since I think the
warranty given by dealers are rather short, ranging from 1 month to 3
months only. And if I were to claim the warranty, do I go to the dealer
or somewhere else like merc's service center? BTW, can somebody explain
to me what is an "3 year International Warranty"? Some of the latest
W211s sold by dealers claim they have this, does this mean I can go to
C&C service center to claim my warranty?

Nazir,

Just a few pointers to note. I am driving a E200K local model. The
imported models vary in specs. Some of them come with full electric seats
with memory, sunroof, parktronic, rear blinds, Xenon lamps, etc. Pls list
down what you want and look for the model.

In term of warranty, as far as I know, imported cars dont have warranty
from an authorised dealer. If you buy a local model car, it has 3 yrs
warranty from Cycle & Carriage. The car on the whole is very good, superb
engine. As we all know, Mercedes cars are made to last.

A point to note for imported cars, some of the mileage have
been 'doctored' or turned back. Although it is digital, they are computer
gadgets that can progam the mileage is lower. Cheers.

there's no specific "Japan-spec" Mercedes models. Why do buyers keep
falling for this trick? kiasu-ism?

Most Japanese prefer to import the higher end and higher c.c. models..

the only thing i know about the jap specs is the rear trunk looks uglier
( like the American models ) for their square plates...also, there's
usually more items available inside, plus they're mostly left handed
models. They usually have the mentality that since its a German car, left
handed is the way to go, showing that they have more class and money.

I agree with you that the rear trunk is ugly for the Japan Spec cars.
Engine wise, the car is the same. Maybe the air conditioning system may
vary like climate or factory air cond, depending on the specs. The
Tachometer, imported cars are in Miles and local cars use Km/h.

Selamat hari raya and happy deepavali everyone, just came back from
kampung....

yeah seanreuben, I heard of cars with digital odometer with its mileage
being tampered as much easier compared with analog ones, whatsmore with
no method of detecting it just by viewing it(unlike the analog ones which
are quite easy to see), guess I'll have to view the car as a whole, but
unfortunately it's not going to be easy as the car I'm looking for is
quite new, year 2000 and above. BTW sean, are you driving a W210 or 211
model? How's the pickup and top speed? Does the 4 cyclinder engine kinda
rough... which if it is I might go for the E240 for its v6 engine. I
agree also there's no such thing such as japan or uk specs merc, just
that's a layman term to explain where does the car originates from, no
harm in there is it? And sorry everyone, I think I prefer the square
plates than the rectangular ones, well 1 man's meat another man's poison!
