I ordered a bmw 328, and there is only 1 dealer here in KK, the car has arrived in the showroom about a month ago now, yet there are still processes that required to go through, firstly was the dealer has to get approval from the Minister of Finance, and after that, they have to send the information to the plant, which happens to be Inokom, and it will take at least 2 weeks, i am at this stage waiting stage at the moment, who knows whats next, to be honest i think the salesperson isn't experienced with this whole process, which probably contribute to the last part of the delay, so up to this point, I still dont have a definite pickup date, yet the car is sitting in the showroom gathering rain and dust.
which car did you order? and which dealer did you go to? it might help me and others not facing what i experienced.
By the way, as a reminder, I placed my order in August 2012.

you mean the car is assembled and delivered to showroom but has not obtained the approval from MoF via SMPC online? This is strange. As I was told by few dealers, the chasis and engine needed to be indented before the plant start assemblying the car, applied for MoF and Kastam approval only then they will assemble the car. Reason being, they don't have to pay the duties when the car leaves the plant, if the approvals are in.
I got an 10 years outdated model , an x-trail 2.5 from Tan Chong main dealer branch (under Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd) in KL. After I paid my initial deposit, within 2-3 working day the SA already emailed me the engine no, chasis no, tariff code and etc for me to apply SMPC.

Nah, I suspect the dealer has no experience on this, that is why the car is still sitting in the show room, from what you said, all these waiting now could've been done during the production of the vehicle.
Did they only started production on your vehicle after your booking was made?

Im new here..reading all above story with mix impression...is this REP tax free really as what its mean? I got approval already from talentcorp. Now thinking which car to buy...can anybody recommend the best dealer that understand about this scheme? If the discount only about 30% as MM2H, than what's the point of the tax free benefit?

That's why I said the scheme is just for show. Unless you are after an expensive car then it is probably worth the wait. Do the math, it is roughly 30% off. Where are you located? Maybe buying from KL is probably a wiser idea.

I'm also REP, thinking to get a car soon.
Could I know how much of tax deduction (in %) you get for buying your car?
Where we can get the car list for REP? Is it the same as MM2H?

Thanks for your help.

1) hunting for cars - test drove a few cars. I called up the showrooms before I went to test drive and asked about purchase under REP scheme. I only went to the showrooms which have SA who can explain to me the steps involved in REP car purchase, ie i only want to deal with SA who knows what he/she is doing.
2) After making up my mind on which car and SA to purchase from, I placed the deposit, and hand over all necessary documents for loan application and REP purchase.
3) Loan was approved in 3 working days, thereafter SA submited the REP purchase documents for their office processing.
4) next working day, SA emailed me the necessary details for SMPC application (Tariff Code, engine no, chasis no).
5) Within same day, tried to submit online SMPC application but realised that i need e-filig ID to log in. So, quickly submit my e-filing ID on Hasil website.
6) Next day, called Inland Revenue and got my e-filing ID and password. Activate the first time log in and the ID is good to use. Quickly submit my SMPC application but was stuck with the upload of documents as it states there need to be certified true copy by Class A civil servant or Commisioner for Oaths. Try calling the SMPC officer for REP but no answer.
7) Called again next day and this time an officer told me that no need the certification, just upload. So submit the application and 2 hours later receive an email notification that I need to change one particular details in the application and re-submit. Quickly did it.
8) 2 working days later, received email notification that my smpc application is approved. QUickly retrieve the approval letter and email to SA.
9) Next day, went to showroom and pay the remaining downpayment and pass to SA the original REP apprioval documents for their processing at Kastam (was told the originals will be return to me after Kastam approve). Also sign the loan agreement.
This is where I am at now. All in the whole process so far took about 2.5 weeks (due to the many holidays this period). I will continue to share here after collected my car but my SA seems very familiar with REP purchase, so far the above process and timeline is more or less about what he previously advised me. From now on, what will/should happen:
Kastam approval will take about one week, but SA said it's more of formality since already have REP and SMPC approval. Also, I have paid the downpayment and signed the loan agreement, they will instruct the plant to assemble the car concurrently while waiting for Kastam approval. One week later, the car should be at showroom ready for JPJ registration. After that it will be the usual registration, the leather seat wrapping and tinting probably another one week. SA has promised to accompany me to JPJ to choose my preferred number, quicker and cheaper that way instead of using runner, as he claimed his company has "connection" in JPJ.
Too bad I can't get my car before CNY but i only blame myself to start the purchase process so late despite having my REP approval since November. I didn't expect the process to be so quick that can be done in one month. Of course my choice of car also play a part as it is not a hot model that need 2-3 month waiting period to assemble.
