Basdo,
As i was told by some of the virago owners. The alternator almost is the
main problem. But I think the main reason is becoz of too common. If you
wanna get a street bike. Try Ducati Monster 600 which is below RM20K. very
good handling. If you are lucky, you might get a DM 750 below RM20K.

Joe30,
I don't think my friend will sell at Rm5K. coz motor shop offer him RM6K.
That's why he is asking forRM6.5K.

Yup, my previous VIrago 400 also had alternator problem....but it happened
only after 50,000KM oon mileage. Changed a new one for RM1000 (free
workmanship...heheh!).

Now I'm quite keen to get a secondhand Vulcan EN500...the previous model
(belt drive). I like the "high" look of the previous Vulcan compare to
the Harley-looking new Vulcan.

ai yo...you shd tell me earlier. I just sold my EN500 A4 (imported model
with belt drive).

As for the power and pick up. A4 is still better than the local one.
Sunrock boss said: the A4 is worth to keep. coz it designed for long
lasting. not like the local assembled one.

Lot of bike shops said A4 is the lousy bike. got no value. but compare the
yr 92-94 A4 and yr 96-97 local assembled one. Price is the same. Just bcoz
of the look n design a bit outdated. lot of ppl dislike...

remember...the weight of A4 is heavier than local one.

Yes nuggyn, how much is the cost of changing the belt? Heard of it, but never get the figure. TQ

1st of all, this is my maiden posting.

I find a lot classifieds offering the bikes below 10k. (yr 96/97/98/99)
Average price now is about 7.5k. I know it uses shaft but is it really
low maintenance? Is it a good bike to start with? I'm currently using
Jaguh and thinking of upgrading. Prefer cruisers but sports bike
looks delicious too. Don't mind 2nd hand. Budget below 20k. (with
loan pls) For daily commute to work. No hurry anyway.

Thanks for replying guys...

Dear Basdo,
If you really want to buy Virago, try to find a bike that in original condition preferably that has no modification of the exzos system cause I had found out there are a lot of cheap Virago due to problem with the pistons as the owner had made some modification like wants to have the sound of Harley.

Dear Basdo, jbrean,

Bought mine about 1year ago. RM10k, a bit pricy but worth it...very low milage, all standard and body still shining. It is also very easy to ride...One thing I dont like is when braking on wet surface, the tyre seems to jam/locked straight away and the bike easy to slide. Happened to me a few times during raining, and I was not even riding fast / speeding at the time. Luckily I ws able to control the bike. My friends told me it is because of the back tyre "viva" that i am using. If this is the case, what tyre should I look for to replace the "viva" and what price should I pay for it? Or is it there is a flaw in virago 535 brake system ? I am very nervous riding this bike if it is raining now, only doing less than 30km/hr. But other than that I still love the look and the handling. Can anyone advise me what brand / kind or spec of tyre should I use on my virago.

the virago, at 10K for a 13-14 yrs old example is not cheap actually. however, the performance is gave with 535cc engine is good though. virago is not meant for top speed so forget about tying to overtake a 150cc 2 stroker doing 170kmph. u barely catch up with him.

maintenance wise, virago 535 is not that high. parts are not cheap though - example tyres, shock absorbers, the wheels and body parts like fender, fuel tank or fork so repair cost is likely to be expensive.

one good thing is that the virago does not use chain drive like its smaller 250cc brother. there is a shaft instead, similar to BMW bikes. therefore maintenace is low.

fuel consumption is around 20km per every litre of petrol. not economical as a Honda Wave (40-45km/litre), but with performance we sacrifice this aspect.

Guys,

I'm looking for a used Virago 535 or any V-twin engine with at least 500cc engine capacity. If the bike is crap also I can consider to buy because me & my brother is thinking of building back the bike. If you guys have any info on where I can get my hands on this, please let me know. As long as the engine is so-so ok and chassis is so-so ok too, I don't mind. I've tried looking at some kedai potong, but most only have cars...

Name me your price, I prefer the pricing to be below RM5k...

Cheers!
