ownership of the vehicle or will it remain under the current owners name?
Anyone who have any experience on this can shed some light?

What actually are you asking?
If you buy over the vehicle, the ownership is transfered to you.

Sambung" What i am asking is wether we transfer the ownership when we
continue to pay or it will still be under the previous owner's name.

I think you mean the term ' sambung bayar' not kereta sambung as that
means half cut car joined together.
If you continue payment on someone else car it technically belongs to him.
But you have to have the reg. card, transfer docs and a letter authorising
you to collect finance release letter from the seller.
If you look at HP agreement this practise is totally illegal and it
is done entirely at yr own risk ,and it is a must that you know the
owner personally.
Or you may go to the bank and request to do an assignment if they want to
do it some may not want to do it.

owner the risk is that the "tukang sambong bayar"(TSB) may agree to
continue paying the instalment and then get the car transferred to him when
its fully settled. But if the TSB defaults, then the car reposessors will
be on the lookout for the car and at that time the responsibility to settle
all outstanding amount will be on the Owner. There have been cases where
the TSB never bother paying instalments at all so the owner is at risk, he
only knows it when letters of demand appear.
The risk to TSB is the owner may renege on the agreement and all the
instalments paid by TSB may be lost.
Of the two parties I think the Owner has more to lose than TSB, so if the
two parties are not really close then dont think should take the risk.

"Kereta Sambung Bayar"???
My personal experienced = FORGET IT !!
You don't want to get entangle with the mess and the trouble.
Jgn cari penyakit Bro....
Bottom Line : Tukang Bayar is on the losing side !!
If you like the car, rehire and change name.
Personally, I top up a lot of cash and give up my Honda EK (M) 1.6 just to sell off my car 2 months ago.
It is like, "hey take this money and this car, its yours"
why I do it....read my lines above, experienced with sambung bayar....many times. (Stay away Bro)
I rather buy a small car or an old car then going thru the hassle...
