Frankly had none experience on airbags, mostly airbags are electrically
charged to activate, that’s the main purpose clock springs were designed,
others are just riding and sharing on the same clock spring flex cable
platform of the airbag.

Basically in the clock spring, wire cables are wound in such a way that
would not get entangled when turning the steering wheel. Unplugging the
clock spring socket will disable all systems using the clock spring as
their electrical path.

Airbag should be removed if access to the steering nut is obstructed.

Hello Zulkr,

What was the main reason for the clock spring to fail? My car horn started to go off by itself when I made a right turn just now.

Where did you fix yours?

I'm using 1.8X

on 8th Feb 2011, i sent my car to Proton wakil service centre to tighten up the screw inside the steering..and the mechanic done the job nicely..unfortunately the SRS airbag light blink every 5 second (originally there is no light blinking except the time i start car only, the light goes off after i start normally).i've sent back to the workshop, and the mention that the clockspring wire problem and need to be change...(the new ori set is rm550).to my frustration, i asked them to installed back without changing it..the mechanic is good enough to solder it back and it WORK BRILIANTLY like normal...root of cause:the soldering at white connector to steering is loose up...... smile_tongue.gif

i don't know whether i'm lucky or otherwise... smile_question.gif

the mechanic(s) at Proton D'sara Damai is very friendly...... smile_sleepy.gif

U r the lucky one michaeljean,

Few days b4 CNY, my dad's 1.8 steering will produce noise when the steering is turn.
The sound is like when we crumple hard plastic.
The next day, the horn sound when the steering is turn so confirm its the clockspring.
I took it to the sc and they hav to order the part.
When i was driving out of the sc, the horn is sounding non stop.
So, off goes the fuse. On the way home, SRS light blink so i stop and remove the fuse oso.
It is not convincing at all to drive when every movement of the steering is accompany with the plastic crumpling sound.
U never know when the airbag might suddenly explode in your face. Worst if it happen at traffic light when there is awek cun beside u.

Just got it change today and great part is i get to play with the old SRS clockspring unit.
Here it is.

Such simple device which can save your life

rear pic

auto cruise controller comes in the replacement set. This is the old unit.

I remove the cover and the pic says it all......
