Hey guys... If anybody can tell me...

How much does it normally cost to change the timing belt on a Kancil? If
possible the breakdown of the parts and labour...

I was quoted a price by a mech... just wanted to know whether he's trying
to sembelih me or not...

Thanks guys...

i changed my timing belt a few years back. i think it was around rm200,
just for the belt. i am currently using original daihatsu.

it has been around 80,000km after the change. recently i noticed a
annoying knocking like noise emitting from the timing belt, especially in
the morning and disappeared after the engine goes into working
temperature.

i asked the mechanic but he was baffled. he said he needs the car to stay
at the workshop overnight and listen for the knocking noise in the
morning. only then he can assess the problem.

trying to avoid uneeded cost, i declined. god knows what he will do to my
car. suddenly came this chap saying he had the same problem with his
kancil. he said the noise was actually from the timing belt pulley.
apparrently the pulley needs to be changed with the belt.

4jb1t,

That knocking sound might not be coming from timing belt or its tensioner
bearing. I experienced that before. Mine was due to slightly loose
alternator/aircond belts. My mech tightened the belts and applied tiny
amount of normal grease (yes, grease) on the groove area of the belts and
the sound will be gone.

Yeah, hard to believe knocking sound was caused by belts but its true for
my case.

Regards.
