those shifting cable be it manual or auto was the last thing to fail on transmission assembly....almost next to not failing at all...
even in worst case scenario one just need proper cable adjustment for proper gear engagement and getting it lubricated to avoid freezing

Got one time, my manual gear cable pop out of their socket, so gear cannot shift. Just have to push them back into the sockets....

really dont know how they drive, cost me rm615 to change the gear cable.

If cable type, they push and pull at different angle when gear is selected.
If you open up the bonnet, then get someone to select the gears, you can see the cable movement in the engine compartment, gear box area....

if gear cable snap or spoiled, will it cause the engine to die off?

Should not, only you cannot select the gears.....
