Hi to all N16 Sifu and current Members,
I have just joined the forum as I've just bought a second hand N16 2002 automatic about a month back. Car seem to be performing ok as I cannot gauge its performance being a new user to this particular model though I still have a N13.
I am from Seremban and last week while driving back from KL via the old road, after passing Mantin, it was a uphill climb for about 5 km and I notice the temperature went up to its max position but not over the line, so I went easy on the accelerator and manage to get back to S'ban. When I was on flat road, temperature was normal (about half way point)
Now I take note on whenever I go up hill, I keep looking at the temperature gauge. Today I noticed the speedo meter needle is stuck on the 40km mark. Does not go up or down when I drive or switch off the engine. Now it makes me wonder whether the whole meter cluster is mulfunctioning or gone "Kaput"
Any Sifu or members have these experience and can shed some info is much appreciated

My old wira did have the same problem before. Its pretty common issue for old cars which doesn't have routine change of coolant in radiator.
I sent mine for the radiator cleaning . These specialist in radiator repair shop will open up the whole radiator and flush out all the rust inside.
Once done the problem gone until today for 5 yrs already.

Update on my overheating problem. Flushed radiator and replaced coolant, did not make any difference. Temperature needle went up at hill climb. Finally drained out ATF fluid (half litre) and added ATF additive in to gearbox. (will not mention brand of additive but anyone interested can pm me). Now looks like problem solved (Touch wood)
Now looks like another problem has appeared. When car is stopped and parked, gear lever at "P", car will not start when I return. Have to shift gear to "R" and go back to "P" , then it will start. Yesterday same thing happened but still no cranking after shifting gear to "R" and back to"P" It only started when I shifted it to "N"
Obliged any Sifu or suggestions to such a problem. Thanks

My B14 also got same problem. So I now start the car in N. I think it is a sensor problem but lazy to check it out since wifey knows how to start it in N.

cschua, thanks for sharing your info. I spoke to a mechanic friend about this problem and he advised to always start and switch off the engine of your car at "N" for the following reason: When you start your car at "P" and shift your lever to "D" it has to pass through "R" When it passes to "R" the engine jerks when "R" is engaged. This put a stress on the engine mounting. Similarly when you stop the engine at "P" the lever will have to pass through "R" before getting to "P". Engine jerks again. So put it at "N" to switch off the engine, then only shift the lever to "P". No engine jerking. Due to engine jerking each time you start and switch off, the mountings will get spoilt much faster and need replacement, often.
