Saw from Peugeot Forum, price $169,888 OTR!

How is your Golf repair process?

Sigh, RM169,888 .... expensive.

Golf already repaired couple of weeks back, bro. Now running along nicely.

Now that the 508 price has been revealed, here's how things stack up. Roughly I get the following numbers:

Assumptions
Interest rate is at 2.63% pa
Jetta price is estimated at RM153,000 OTR with insurance
Assuming buyer takes maximum loan (90%)

Results
Monthly if take 5 year repayment
for 508 = RM2,828.75
for Jetta = RM2,545.88
Variance = RM283

Monthly if take 7 years repayment
for 508 = RM2,114.46
for Jetta = RM1,903.02
Variance = RM211

The gap is marginal .... the difference is more downpayment for the 508. Is it still worth it for either of these cars?

The Jetta? From the glance I had in the unit I saw yesterday, the 508 seems larger and has a more premium feel to it. The rear seat inclination seems to be lower in the 508 (but this can only be verified once the Jetta is available to be seen and tested) which results in better rear passenger comfort.

Say ..... aren't we supposed to have a special preview session today? What happened to it??

Just for fun, no offence is intended.
A conversation between a SA and a customer sometime in 2012:

S: Good morning sir, welcome to Volkswagen.
C: Miss, I would like to check out the Jetta CKD version.
S: Certainly sir, all our Jetta now are CKD.
C: Oh, I see.
S: Sir, Jetta comes with a 1.4TSI engine with DSG gear box. It is similar to Golf but with extended wheelbase and a much larger boot. Selling price is RM138,888.
C: Ouch, it is expensive. I can get Civic 2.0, Altis 2.0, Focus Ecoboost with some change to spare.
S: Sir, Volkswagen is a German manufacturer and we build the best cars in the world. Volkswagen is very affordable in comparison to other German makes liked Audi, Beemer and Merc. Driving a German car will make you feel one class above. In fact, this selling price is much cheaper than the CBU version, 10K cheaper.
C: Wao, if you put it that way, it is indeed a bargain. What difference between this CKD and last year’s CBU version?
S: Sir, spec wise, they are identical. The only difference is the price and country of origin. CBU is made in Mexico.
C: Gosh, it is not from Germany? Is there any difference in terms of quality VW cars made in Mexico and Pekan?
S: Certainly no Sir. As a German company, Volkswagen takes car manufacturing very seriously. All our plants need to adhere to the highest QA/QC procedures regardless their locations, be it in Russia, China, India, Mexico, Portugal or Malaysia.
C: So you are saying that the CBU Jetta was 10K more expensive with exactly same spec and exactly same quality?
S: Yes Sir.
C: Then why on earth they bought the car last year and lost one year resale value? Can’t they just wait for CKD version?
S: Sir, they were the ones who got to ride the brand new 6th generation Jetta at the earliest stage in Malaysia. Imagine how proud they were and how exclusive they felt.
C: So they were running around and showing off the brand new Jetta. At the same time they were advertising the car to the public, drawing people attention to the CKD versions and raising the brand awareness?
S: Indeed Sir.
C: So what reward VGM gave them in return for this brilliant marketing plan?
S: Nothing Sir.
C: So you are saying that this bunch of losers bought the same car and lost around RM40K now (10K car price difference + 20% annual depreciation) just to show off for couple of months?
S: Sir, you can’t put a price on the sense of proudness and exclusivity.
S: Ahem….off the record, I do agree that they are a bunch of jokers, but hey look at you, you are the lucky one.
C: I’ll take the white one.

CBU should be better built than well those CKD that will be assembled in Pekan. Hope the CKDs will have stringent QC control by VW AG then should be fine.

Well I am not alone (although in jest above it kind of says it all).
As a teenager I was already driving a Beetle lah.
Its just so sad that VW's are clearly overpriced here and they are getting away with it because of people like you put VW in the same league as other German cars.
Yes I am asleep and you are awake.
