As I understand it, one way would be to disconnect your car battery, wait a while, then re-connect.

Yes, just take out the positive connection from the battery and wait for about 10 minutes, then reconnect it back and start the engine for about 5 minutes to let the ECU learn engine (do not switch on air-con, or press the pedal).

Remove battery connections for a minute or so.

Why do you need to reset ECU?

Recently i added addictive to improve performance and from internet search ECU required to be resetted to allow the ECU to pick up these new informantion.

I have pull the battery but now my NGL seems to be not too smooth. While idling the tachometer drop from 850 to 800 and the fuel comsuption is higher smile_disapprove.gif

Hi All

I found this and perform exactly what being written... guess what?????!!!! all mentioned really come out. Here is how to reset you nissan ECU

1. Turn the ignition key to the on position (do not start the car, though) and wait exactly three seconds.

2. After waiting for three seconds, push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and release 5 times within 5 seconds.

3. Wait EXACTLY seven seconds.

4. Push the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold for ten seconds. At this point the SES light should start flashing the error codes that are stored in the system and you can release the pedal. If you only get five slow flashes or no flashes at all, then your timing was off on one of the above steps and you should start over.

5. Now to clear the codes, push the pedal back down all the way to the floor and hold for at least ten seconds. The light will continue to flash and there's no indication that the codes have been cleared so make sure you time ten seconds or more.

6. At this point you can turn the ignition to the off position and turn the car back on. Your light should now be off! If it's still on, you may have missed one of the above steps or the computer may still be sensing an error.

Hey, thanks for the info! How did you find this info? I never realise resetting NGL's ECU requires this many "hidden" steps.

Actually i have no intention to reset my ECU. Recently i added addictive that suppose to safe petrol but the outcome is reversd. After searching on net there was suggestion to reset ECU. One common way is pull battery. I tried it but the result Worst without alternative i continue to search and found this. The outcome is good rpm stabile & petrol also good. Driving also smooter now. I will update on FC next time.

Does adding petrol addictive always mean it is better to reset the ECU? What is the addictive you are testing?

I just drove my car for a month & notice that the FC for city driving is quite worse. RM50 only for 220km...FYI my livina is fully impul 1.8(A). Can i do this ECU reset to my car even though it's still new?? Does it have any bad effect by doing this?? Thanks...
