HI,
I am interested to get a second hand harrier.
I am new to this and would like some comments:
1.Is it worth to get a second hand harrier?
2.Which years model should I go for?
3.I am interested in 2.4. I would not be able to afford the 3.0 roadtax.
What should I look for when buying a second hand harrier?
Thanks so much.

First, you got your choice right meaning a 2.4 cc, what you need is to
make sure find the engine model equipt with timming chain.
Road test the auto transmission or find a skill tester to assist you.
Test the air cond. system or the compressor condition if A/C still cold
at idling speed for about 25 minuits should be OK.
The rest, wears and tear items your account la, frankly, you still need a
carefull investigation on any used car for sales,
Remember, you are buying someone problem...

mostly 2nd-hand car, if can, get from those your are familiar with or
know from someone. otherwise you will get a problematic car in the next
few months time.

I know it is an old thread, but I would answer for the benefits of current readers :

There are two generations of 2.4L Harrier : 1st Generation 2.4L is around 01-02 ( i think ). 2nd generation 2.4L ( post 03 till now ).

3rd Generation of Harrier has just been launched in US but I have not seen it on our streets yet.

1st Generation 2.4L is priced at : RM 100K for 01, with every year + RM 10K more.
2nd Generation 2.4L is priced at : RM 160K for 04 ( unregistered ) and every year + RM 10K more.

Obviously, 2nd Generation is better than 1st ( otherwise how to sell 2nd Generation ).

But it boils down to you budget.

1st generation look outdated. Most of the first generation are the 90' year car. So more than 15 years already.

2nd generation very nice with the rear lamp high mounted.

Harrier first launch in 1998. Sure, new is better than old, but prices is a factor :

1st Generation - Used
98 = 60+K
99 = 70+K
00 = 80+K
01 = 90+K

2nd Generation - New
04 = 150+K
05 = 160+K
06 = 170+K

If you got the $$$, got for the latest.
