Hi,

Wow, Autofoam III ...

JC2709, long time no hear. Great to see u r back.

Were u referring to the AUTOCAR UK magazine article on the new BMW Z6
Concept car..."The 3-Series of the future."(24 May 06) where it states...

"FOAM CORE.
All-aluiminium construction will remain too expensive, so watch out for
ultra-lightweight steel bodyshells that make much use of Structural foam.
The body`s cavities will be injected with foam that will expand and be
cured as the car goes through the paint shop. Ultra -rigid and good at
crash absorbtion."

Cheers,

DChong

no, it was the OPTION, the Taiwanese car magazine. i thought i mentioned
very clearly it was OPTION, y u comme up with Autocar pulak?

BMW and many other car manufacturers have been using them for a long time
lar...

it takes only about RM500-RM600 plus minus depending on the car size
worth of foam cans to foam the whole car.....provided if you get the
correct foam.

years back when TVR was being made in Malaysia, they also used
foam...guess what, these are locally sourced as well. once my mates in KL
get the contacts for me, i will pass them over to all of you...no point
spending thousands on such simple stuff.

local source one cheap one rite
pass to me I'll test them cause I'm pretty sure they are from China and
the quality & specs if different cause I spoke to one supplier before.
and I have their version. This ones are not the patented specs from US or
Euro or Japan. It might look the same but rest assured its not.

Like I said before there are AUTOMOTIVE & INDUSTRIAL types and HOME use
types.

Hi DChong,

Long time no see indeed!

You are right about the article from AUTOCAR UK magazine, but the
independent writer I referred to also gave the same view, or
understanding of what BMW plans to do for BMWs of the future. Big Smile

Powerhaus,

It might be true that the material you're sourcing for cost much less
than getting professionals to do it... but interestingly, I found out
from a Singapore company that they stopped offering foaming in Singapore
because material is just too expensive... so I'm not sure if your RM600
foam for the whole car is of the same material?

If you carry the same line of argument, you could probably DIY and
install ICE at a much lower cost, or maybe even build your own car from
parts at a much lower cost. Question is - is it worthwhile agonising over
the process and wouldn't the time you spent DIYing be more worthwhile
spent in more productive activities?

Seriously... after watching DChong's boys foam my car I'd rather spend my
time sipping milo peng instead of crawling all over the car foaming it
myself... that's just me speaking here of course.

At the end of the day... one man's meat is another man's poison - so to
each his own and may your search for the cheap alternative be a success!
Smile

Ya, it also depends on how 'kiamsiap' you are. I know some ppl are so
kiamsiap that they even skip breakfast, and come to office to eat office
left-over breads, then lunch same thing and dinnner same thing. Wow!

Foaming, best left to ppl who do it best.

Errr...I haven't done mine yet. Waiting for my yr end bonus. Hopefully.
